The Sorenson’s are wonderful. The husband and wife are close to our age and their kids are our kids age. They have two and Dan and I have 3 and that is the only difference. We can sit and talk just about anything with them and I feel we have known them for ever.

Our kids are best friends and I can see the boys hanging out in high school and the girls be best friends and talk about boys they like and do everything together like sisters.

They are truly friends that we always wanted to have in California but never had the time to do meet.

This is another thing that we could not have if we did not live here in Texas, not to say that we could not find and make friends in a different place but this is where we belong. This is where we were meant to be.

Life in Texas 2 years and 8 months later is great. We love our house, our life here, the neighborhood, the friends we’ve made, the things we’ve done and experienced.

My 3rd child was born here. My kids have made friends here as well as my parents, my husband and I. We are plugged in a church and we feel like family. The city of Round Rock Texas is a city made just for us. When we first came here things were a little hard but we found the church, made friends and started growing here after being planted.

I still drive thru county roads just to see the cows and the open fields and that same feeling I had when I did that the first time is still there. I love it here.

Life in Texas 2 years and 8 month later is truly great!

I think that it has actually rained more this summer then it did this past winter.

I know for a fact that here in the Austin area that we had more rain in the first half of the year then we usually do all year.

It has been difficult to plan outings with the family due to the weather but you actually reach a point that you say “Oh Well, it is always raining so what am I going to do? Stay in the house all the time?”.

Elsy and I took that attitude as we planned to get away this past weekend to Galveston. The news said that it was supposed to rain all weekend but we went anyway. We had some rain on the way there and back but had hardly any while there.

The one good thing about the rain is that I think it has only gotten to 100 degrees once or twice this summer. I still don’t know what I would rather have – the rain or the heat.

I had taken the time to get the majority of the ice off of the two cars yesterday but woke up this morning to find as much ice as there was the day before. After checking the news to see if we were going to get any more rain (which we were not) I went out and re-de-iced the cars and even the driveway.

We also brought the kids out for a while so that they could get out the house for a little. We had all be cooped up in the house for 3 days now and were starting to feel it. We went to Walmart to do some shopping and took the kids to McDonalds to play for a little bit.

As strange as it may sound it was kind of cool to see the weather change so much over the course of a few days. The last time I had seen snow at my house I was a teenager in the Antelope Valley.

You can see more pictures here.

Currently the temperature is 30 degrees outside and has stayed around there for most of the day. It is expected to dip into the 20’s tonight and frozen rain, slush, and even snow are expected. It is estimated that we could get 1/4″ to 1/2″ of frozen rain and possible 1-2″ of snow!

This is a big change from California!

The good thing is that we are completely prepared with food water and even a kerosene heater in the case that the electricity goes out. We are not planning on going anywhere in the car until this lets up so we should be just fine.

I snapped some pictures of some of the ice that can be seen here.

Well we have had our first big thunder storm here in the new house. We had seen a few in the apartment but being in the house was quite different.

One of the differences was that you can hear the intense rain hitting the roof. In the apartment we were on the first floor so we would not here it.

Another difference is that it matters to you when there are gallons of water pouring off the roof onto your landscape (the gardeners took care of it at the apartment).

Not only was the rain bad the lightning was pretty intense. One clap of thunder was so load that it set the alarm off on of Camry.

Another result of the lightning was that our cable box got fried. It was plugged into the electricity regulator that keeps the current at the right level but I guess it came in through the actual cable itself. I have heard of this before but have never known anyone that it has happened to.

Lastly, there was quite a bit of flooding across the street. Fortunately, it is not on our side but I am going to bring it to the attention of the Superintendent in case they are not aware of the drainage issues.

You can check out more pictures of the storm here (You have to go to the last page to see them).

This is the first day since we have moved that I have seen it hit the 100 degree mark.

Now this is the thing – it is not as hot as it gets here I have been told. I have been told that it gets up to the 110-115 range. Also, their is not really any humidity right. I hear that when it gets hot – Texas Hot – that the humidity plays a big part.

Oh, and if you notice the little cloud with the lightening come out of it – thunder storm. Like they say – everything is big in Texas. If this is like the typical thunder storm it will brush by at 35-40mph, dump 3-5 inches of rain, and then be gone within the hour.

With all of that said, we still love Texas and are not going anywhere!
